Glasgow Caledonian to offer bursary places on Scotland’s first MSc in Social Enterprise
Scotland’s grass-roots social entrepreneurs are to be offered the chance to bolster their social enterprise knowledge on Glasgow Caledonian University’s MSc in Social Enterprise.
Glasgow Caledonian announced today that they will offer bursaries to provide financial help to students undertaking the MSc.
The MSc is the first of its kind in Scotland and was co-developed by GCU and the Social Enterprise Academy.
The new bursaries will be targeted at people on low incomes working for smaller third sector organisations that do not have a significant training budget. The priority is to engage with social entrepreneurs who are setting up a social enterprise or leading one with limited financial resources.
Over 3,000 social enterprises already operate in Scotland, generating £2.5-billion and GCU are keen to support their development.
Dr John Connell Programme Leader said:
We know from experience that finance is the main barrier to recruitment so a reduction in cost will hopefully encourage more people to apply and benefit from the programme. The business planning part of the programme probably provides the greatest practical benefit for those wishing to set up or expand a social enterprise, but the programme covers many topics.”

Notes
A total award of £1,500 is based on a £500 discount on fees for each stage of the MSc to a maximum of £1,500. To receive the full amount students must successfully progress from Certificate to Diploma to Masters in three years.
How to Apply
Applications to undertake the course must be made via the GCU Postgraduate Application form. Applications for the bursary should then be made in writing to the Programme Leader detailing how the criteria are met.
