The Academy Announces Scotland's First MSC in Social Enterprise
Scotland’s First MSC in Social Enterprise Announced
Social Enterprise continued its push into the mainstream today as Glasgow Caledonian University and the Social Enterprise Academy announced Scotland’s first MSc in Social Enterprise.
Starting in March 2011, the MSc is the only postgraduate degree in Scotland designed specifically for the social enterprise sector - a reflection of its growing size and importance. The development of the MSc programme follows the success of the Postgraduate Certificate in Social Enterprise and a demand for more in-depth study around the sector.
In partnership, Glasgow Caledonian University (GCU) and the Social Enterprise Academy (SEA) aim to help third sector organisations learn techniques to develop not just as entrepreneurs but social entrepreneurs.
The Masters will combine the academic rigour of experts from GCU’s Caledonian Business School with practical knowledge from the Academy’s lead tutors and speakers from the Social Enterprise world.
Students will study the role social enterprise can play in creating a sustainable economy in the 21st century by looking at ways the business model can provide social, economic, environmental and cultural change.
Neil McLean, Chief Executive of the Social Enterprise Academy said:
“This has been a very rewarding working partnership with our colleagues at Glasgow Caledonian University. They have consistently demonstrated their commitment to Social Enterprise and the wider agenda of the impact of social business creation on the lives and health of disadvantaged communities in Scotland and overseas. We look forward to delivering something excellent together!”
