Social Enterprise Facts Kit

  1. A social what? Essentially, a social enterprise is an organisation that generates its own income but reinvests its profits to tackle its social purpose.
  2. Are there many? 62,000 in the UK and over 3,000 in Scotland.
  3. Really? Yes really and they employ roughly 800,000 people.
  4. How much do they make? In 2009 they contributed around £62-billion to the UK's GDP; £2.5-billion of this was from Scotland.
  5. Is it here to stay? No-one can predict the future but since 2009 over 31,000 social enterprises have increased their profits.
